    Yami Bolo

Yami Bolo, born Rolando Ephraim McLean on October 1, 1970, in Kingston, Jamaica, is one of reggae music's most respected voices in roots and culture music. Emerging from the vibrant musical landscape of Kingston 13, Yami Bolo developed his passion for music through church singing before joining the legendary Sugar Minott's Youth Promotion Crew, a breeding ground for some of Jamaica's most influential reggae artists.

Beginning his recording career in the mid-1980s, Yami Bolo quickly gained attention with songs such as "When A Man's In Love" and "Free Mandela," showcasing a distinctive vocal style rooted in conscious lyrics, spirituality, and social awareness. His early collaborations with renowned producers including Sugar Minott, Augustus Pablo, Junior Delgado, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Sly & Robbie, and Coxsone Dodd helped establish him as a leading voice in the roots reggae movement.

Throughout a career spanning more than four decades, Yami Bolo has remained committed to uplifting messages centered on Rastafarian values, peace, unity, and social justice. His catalog includes acclaimed albums such as Jah Made Them All, He Who Knows It Feels It, Up Life Street, Fighting for Peace, and Healing of All Nations. His powerful songs, including "Put Down The Weapons," "Jah Jah Give Me True Love," and "Be Still Babylon," have resonated with reggae audiences worldwide.

In 1994, Yami Bolo achieved international success through his collaboration with Japanese artist Kazafumi Miyazawa (Miya). Their album Love Is Dangerous sold more than 500,000 copies in Japan, while the Miya-Yami Project earned Japan's Best Music Video award, further expanding Yami Bolo's global reach.

His talent has also led to collaborations with reggae luminaries including Damian Marley, Stephen Marley, Capleton, Tenor Saw, Tapper Zukie, Josey Wales, Charlie Chaplin, and Wyclef Jean. Yami contributed to Damian Marley's Grammy Award-winning album Halfway Tree, further cementing his place among reggae's elite performers.

Known for his unmistakable voice, conscious songwriting, and unwavering dedication to positive messages, Yami Bolo continues to inspire audiences across Jamaica, North America, Europe, Asia, and beyond. As a cultural ambassador for reggae music and Rastafari, his work stands as a testament to the enduring power of roots reggae to educate, uplift, and unite people around the world.
